Robyn and I packed up again and set our sights on a much different ski trip; the Austrian
Alps. We traded our powder skis in for some sharp-edged, all-mountain carvers and
packed our party shirts.
Robyn and I packed up again and set our sights on a much different ski trip; the Austrian
Alps. We traded our powder skis in for some sharp-edged, all-mountain carvers and
packed our party shirts. We had our base camp set up in St. Christophe at the Ski Austria
Academy. Located right on the slopes with every amenity in or beside the school, it was the
perfect place to start and finish every day.

We basically had unlimited terrain to explore. The St. Anton Am Arlberg gave us access to
eighty-five lifts and over three hundred kilometers of runs. Over our five days of skiing, we
barely scratched the surface. Unlike our powder-seeking Japan trip, we were on the hunt
for long, undulating corduroy (and jumps... duh). Our first run of the trip quickly checked
that box and left us in awe at the vastness in which we were in.

Every day of our trip involved stretching out as far as we could, bouncing from town to town, and
sometimes into different districts. It was very cool to use our skis and the lifts to explore.
In our travels, we would cover at least fifty kilometers in a day.

A favourite of mine was up the Rendlbahn. It had an awesome park and super cool,
undulating terrain. It also provided an epic race down to St. Anton and beer. It was a long
ski out from the top of the gondola to town and gave you around 720m of people dodging
descent. We lucked out on our last day and got a sneaky 10-15 cm’s and a bluebird ski.
These turns will live rent-free in my head forever.

We had some epic après at the Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh where it is shoulder-to-shoulder, tabletop partying. The craziest time you can have in your ski boots.

Tips:
- Bring skis with sharp edges that turn well on groomers and hardpack
- Stiff but comfortable boots. I was in my custom (thanks JC) K2 Recon 130’s which
have excellent power and are comfortable enough to wear all day and night.
- Layers, layers ,layers. The weather changed a lot and quickly. It was helpful to have
layers to shed into a pack and then put back on for lunch or when the weather shifts.
- Have fun. The Austrians love skiing and après skiing. Embrace the culture and you’ll
have an epic trip.
- Keep an eye out for the rescue helicopters! The pilots are super skilled and will land
anywhere.
